Video Transcript for Powerbuilt 12 Point Socket with 3/4 Inch Drive Review

Today we'll be taking a look at the Powerbuilt inch-and-seven-eights three-quarter-inch drive socket, part number ALL643216. This socket is ideal for tightening down hinge balls to ball mounts, or weight distribution heads. It's a three-quarter inch drive, so you need to be sure that you have a three-quarter inch drive torque wrench, or an adapter. It's a twelve point oversized socket, and it's built to exceed tool standards. This socket features a lifetime warranty. Now let's go ahead and show you how to use it in a typical situation. We've got our weight distribution system here and we need to torque down our ball.

In order to gain access to it, we're going to go ahead and flip it over, so we can gain access to the nut. As you can see, putting a pipe wrench down there, or any other type of wrench, would be virtually impossible. That's where this socket comes in handy. Lets go ahead and drop the socket in, make sure it gets situated. Then we can take our torque wrench and put it into position.

We'll want to set the torque wrench to whatever our manufacturer recommends for our ball mount. Now we can immobilize the other side of our ball, and begin torquing. If need be, it's not a bad idea to get an extra set of hands to hold your other wrench. Looks like we've got it. Now we can flip it over and continue setting up our weight distribution, or, if this was just a standard ball mount, we'd be ready to tow. That's going to complete our look at the Powerbuilt inch-and-seven-eighths socket with a three-quarter-inch drive, part number ALL643216.

1-7/8" SAE thin walled socket with a 3/4" drive should be used with a compatible socket wrench (sold separately) to apply torque when installing a hitch ball on a ball mount or weight distribution head. Steel construction resists corrosion.

I had to return the item. I bought it to tigten the nut on the ball for the equalizer weight distrubution hitch that I bought from etrailer. The WDH is great. But the etrailer socket was too thick, and I had to get the equilizer socket. But I think it was a bit much that only equilizers thin walled socked would work on for the install and that socket was VERY expensive.

by:

The Equalizer products are great….the shipping of 65 pound of Equalizer parts in a 1 cubic foot box, not so much. The UPS driver had a hard time carrying the box to our porch. When he set it down it had a 4” hole in the corner and the 1-3/4” socket was in his hand that had fallen out and, we learned later upon opening the box, the lubricant was missing (see attached photos). To expect anyone to pick up a 65 pound loaded cardboard box with no hand holds is unrealistic thus, the reason for the hole in the box and missing lubricant.
I was impressed with the quality of the hitch and the quick delivery. Also, a call to etrailer explaining my missing lubricant was handled with courtesy and understanding with replacement lubricant headed my way. EXCELLENT customer service….thanks!

by:

Quality socket. I saw some bad reviews saying this won't fit the recessed Equalizer hitch ball nut. Well, you've got to pivot the 2 bar pockets in the head out of the way, then it fits perfect. These aren't easy to move on a new hitch, so get something strong, with plenty of leverage.

Used it once to attach the ball. Will probably include it with the Equalizer hitch when I sell it.

by:

Just what I needed to torque my hitch ball down. Worked perfectly!

Still working same as new

by:

I purchased an unusual hitch [RP66560] that wouldn't allow a standard wrench to tighten the nut for the hitch ball. This product was absolutely necessary for installation and the price was very fair.

by:

Review for the thin wall 3/4" drive 1 7/8" socket. This was needed for torquing a hitchball to a weight distribution head. The thin wall was just narrow enough to slip onto the nut down in the head. It was snug but came off after torque was set with abit of care. If you have a tight work space such as l did on this application, you must use a thin wall socket. Product appears quality & should last yrs. 5 stars for product & timely shipping from etrailer...

One year update. After using the socket for the last year to check torque, all is as l would hope. No problems using to keep a check on the 430ft pounds required by manufacturer. Looks new. Has a good finish on the socket. No rust marks anywhere. Expected to last years with care.

by:

The socket worked great with my equalizer hitch ball installment its thin walled but very strong

by:

Exactly what we were looking for an we had not been able to find it anywhere else! Quality is great!

by:

This is a great socket, I just ordered the wrong one. I’ll return it which I’m sure will be just as quick and easy as their shipping is. I really like how fast everything was shipped out and the updates.

by:

Gets the job done.
My one complaint is
that the agent didn't advise me on getting a socket. So I ended up paying shipping just for the socket.
Don't buy the overly priced socket from

by:

Great customer service This is why I do my business with etrailer They BELIEVE in customer satisfaction!!!

by:

This socket was a must have for my hitch

by:

Socket performs as expected. I use to to install or replace the ball on certian W/D hitches

by:

Very good quality socket and quick delivery…what I have come to expect from trailer!

by:

Used this for my Equalizer W/D hitch ball. Fit great and did precisely what it was made for.

by:

Made life much easier, thanks Etrailer for the recommendation

by:

The socket is heavy duty but it will not fit in my fastway E2 hitch as described. I ended up having to pay $160 to get my local camper dealer to setup my hitch.

by:

The customer service is out of this world. The hitch was easy to install and works great. The only problem was trying to find a 3/4 torque wrench to torque the hitch ball to 430 ft/lbs. very pleased

by:

This was supposed to be a thin wall socket needed to torque the hitch ball on the equalizer hitch system. Outside diameter of the socket is too big And did not work.Luckily I was able to find a shop 20 miles away from me that was able to mount the hitch ball and torque it correctly For a fee. Wish I would’ve save the money on the socket to go towards paying to get it done.

I reached out to the manufacturer and they have not had consistent reports of this socket being incompatible with Equalizer balls. Equalizer does make a socket that is made for their WD systems. It is part # EQ70-00-4800. It is important to use a ratchet with a three quarter in socket for installation.

by:

Socket fit the receiver and worked well to torque receiver ball to specs.

by:

Worked Great!

by:

Fits the Equalizer trailer system 14,000lb hitch ball bolt perfectly inside the Equalizer hitch head!

And who doesn't like "perfect" with a $40 savings over the Equalizer socket price.

THANKS etrailer.com

Have pulled my 12,000lb toyhauler over 8,000 miles with the new ball and Equalizer system and some of the highways got surprisingly rough with no warning, which really took our rig on a bit of a roller coaster ride a few times but the ball and hitch system worked perfectly. Still like my purchase after putting it through some real world conditions.

by:

Amazing quality and worked perfectly on my 14000 lb Equalizer Distribution hitch.. was a 60 second tighten, and was worried this thin wall socket wouldnt fit (silly me)

I purchased a 24ft 3/4 drive torque wrench and that did the trick.

Definitely keeping this aboard on my travel trailer.

Great! This is a lifetime part. After pulling my TT 6,000 miles if only had to tighten once using this product

by:

Just what I needed to attach a trailer ball to by new equalizer hitch -- it's needed because the nut is recessed within the hitch.

Ball stayed tight from NY to TX and back. What more could you ask for!

The 3/4" drive 1 1 7/8" thin walled socket was just what I needed for my Equal-i-zer hitch. It was also the best price and fast shipping. My thanks go to etrailer.

  • Curt or Fastway Weight Distribution for Trailer that Weighs 3,000 lb Dry
The Curt and Fastway kits are pretty similar and were designed both as replicas of the very popular Equal-i-zer weight distribution systems which are very effective and considered by many to be the best option out there. What's interesting though is the at Fastway is made by same company as Equal-i-zer so they are able to copy the design the closest. Overall we see fewer issues with Fastway kits over Curt kits so that would be the route I would recommend. Since you want to go with a weight...

The Curt Friction Sway Control for Weight Distribution Systems # 17200 is a good option to assist with sway control if you already have a weight distribution system or if you have a ball mount that is able to use Sway Control # RP26003. A better option would be to get a weight distribution system with sway control like the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0800. This is rated for total tongue weights between 400 and 800 lbs. That total tongue weight is...

With the tow package, you already have the factory 7-way so I recommend the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller # C51180 which uses a mobile app and won't add wiring in your Pacifica. I do recommend using a weight distribution system with that large a trailer to not only reduce sag with your truck but also help with sway control.
